2000 Wendouree Shiraz Malbec

P3199050A few weeks ago, AWG decided it was time to prune the cellar.

This is when we came across this sleeper from 2000, something of a rarity, given how hard they are to come by.  Carefully uncorked and decanted to breathe for over four hours, this Clare Valley icon rose to the occasion.

Perfumed bouquet featuring plum and sultana trimmings, complimented by a hint of spice in the body, that little twist provided courtesy of the Malbec, and a slightly chalky aftertaste possibly owing to age.  Great viscosity, the wine clung to the glass.  A silky smooth and well matured drink from a very well regarded vineyard.  Just superb!
