2012 Anniversary Wine 2009 Chateau Lynch Bages

This year’s wedding anniversary wine has been chosen!  In what looks like a stellar year for Bordeaux producers (and with brands like Château Palmer fetching above AUD $600 a bottle) we decided to put down at least one bottle from the region before it was too late.

I’m quite fond of Pauillac wines, specifically Château Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion and given the great reviews the Château Lynch Bages has been getting we thought it was a fairly safe bet.

The Lynch-Bages Château is not far from another vineyard we adore in the Pauillac region – Château Pontet-Canet, which we visited in 2009.  Hopefully the common geography will lend itself to the kind of superb flavours we tasted at the latter location a few years back.

This year’s bottle will be cellared at 12’C for quite some time before being uncorked, probably 10+ years, so in time we’ll get a review on just how great Bordeaux reds are from the 2009 vintage.  For now though, and for the immediate future it will have to rest up alongside all the other anniversary reds.
